Bà tôi thường bảo rằng:
“Mỗi chén cơm đưa lên tận miệng là thiêng liêng,
là công sức của bao người. Con không được quên!
Rồi mai này lớn nên người, con hãy nhớ rằng:
Ngôi nhà này là nơi sinh ra, nơi đây con đã lớn khôn.”
Và

Những cái tên không làm nên dòng sông.
Những cái tên không xây những ngôi nhà.
Những con người gặp nhau sớm tối
không có từ những cái tên.

“Dù có loạn lạc, chia bè chia phái, con cũng không được quên:
Ai đã là người cầm tay dắt con đi những bước đi đầu.

Is the effort of many people. You must never forget.
Later, when you grow up, you must remember:
This house is where you’re born, where you grows.”
And

People who are welcomed days and nights
aren’t made out of the names.

“Despite of turmoils, factions and sides, you must also never forget:
Who held your hand in your very first steps.
And respect the lessons they taught: The lessons you didn’t realize,
the lessons to enlighten you, to make your steps firmer.
